Helping you find a way forward

Are you looking for someone to talk to in confidence to explore what’s going on for you?  My name’s David and I’m an experienced Person-Centred counsellor and psychotherapist.

My aim is to provide a safe place and relationship for you to talk without the fear of judgement or rejection.

In this environment we can explore your issues and concerns to help you gain insight, understanding and a way forward.

Why Counselling or Psychotherapy?

Sometimes we have situations, experiences, emotions or problems we want to talk about and  we can feel there is no-one to turn to or will understand.  The counselling relationship provides a safe and confidential environment where you can explore whatever is concerning you.

Just the process of verbalising  your thoughts or what’s going on for you and having it witnessed and understood without judgement by another person can be incredibly beneficial; this can help you make sense of it and find a way forward that’s right for you.

Counselling generally refers to shorter  term work, and psychotherapy to longer, more in depth work, I am able to offer both, either in person or online.

For more information about counselling and psychotherapy see the BACP website.

About Me

I am calm, accepting and understanding;  I will really hear and see you as an individual as I believe that each person and situation is unique.  I will work together with you to explore whatever is concerning you, helping you to discover inner resources to do what’s right for you.

Facing my own life challenges has led me to having an insight and empathy towards others who are facing their own situations, whatever they may be.  I have experience of  working with a wide range of people and issues in a variety of settings within Social Services and the Voluntary Sector, including working in an overseas community setting for several years  giving me an insight into different cultural perspectives.

Within my counselling and psychotherapy practice I have helped people with many issues including – chronic health conditions, relationships, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, depression, loss, bereavement, trauma, mental health issues, low self-esteem and feeling low or stuck – amongst others.

I’m an insured and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the largest professional body for counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK, I adhere to their ‘ethical framework’ and participate in regular supervision and ongoing training.  I have Enhanced DBS clearance.

Qualifications include:
Qualified Counsellor & Psychotherapist – BA Hons in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy

Bereavement Care Training – Cruse

Qualified Social Worker – Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW)

Qualified Youth and Community Worker – Youth and Community Work Certificate

Counselling Sessions

The initial consultation will provide an opportunity for you to talk about what you are hoping to gain from counselling, get a feel of how I work, discuss any concerns or queries you may have and for us to decide whether we would like to work together.  The relationship you form with your counsellor is the most  significant aspect in having a successful outcome so it’s important to chose someone you feel comfortable with.

I understand that it’s impossible for some people to get to a face to face session e.g. if you have a  health condition, particular disability or are living overseas; consequently I offer online counselling which in my experience can work extremely effectively.

Sessions last  50 minutes, generally at an agreed time each week, however the number required and frequency  will vary from person to person dependent on your specific circumstances; I will work as flexibly as possible to meet your requirements.

Counselling sessions are confidential following the BACP guidelines and any personal information is kept securely in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).  Both of these issues will be explained when we meet.

Fees

Individual 50 minute session – £45
